Powered Wheelchair Utah

Posted by James Wednesday, March 3, 2010

A few years ago, choosing a wheelchair was as easy as shopping for a carton of milk or a dozen eggs. There weren't a lot of choices and they were all the same. The choice included a boxy, steel-framed chair with vinyl upholstery and huge wheels. You see them at every hospital, clinic or nursing home. There were no options so people were unaware that choosing the right wheelchair had an effect on their independent mobility.

Today with the advent and popularity of powered wheelchair Utah and across the globe, the choices range from manual chairs that are light and easy to maneuver to motorized chairs with gears and equipped to travel across smooth and rough terrain. If the patient is unable to self-propel the chair, they can choose between an electric powered wheelchair and a battery powered wheelchair. Some manufacturers are focusing designs for sports enthusiasts, professionals, housewives, children and travelers. There are many factors to consider when looking for a wheelchair. Think about the environment where you will use the chair. The doors must be wide enough for the either chair to fit through, ramps must be available for wheelchair access and you might have to re-arrange furniture to accommodate moving the wheelchair throughout the home or office environment. Either way, patients have many choices for powered wheelchairs in Utah.

  2. Wow! Have you got your facts wrong. Ever since the 1970's there has been a varied selection of wheelchairs, mobility scooters, sports wheelchairs and assorted options. There are certainly more know but comparing chairs of a "few years ago" to transport chairs and the boxes of 40 years ago is out there.
